Founding vision
Two complementary traditions
The Institute's founding vision drew together the Chinese ideal of Datong (Great Commonwealth) and the Bahá'í principle of the oneness of humanity.
These enduring sources of inspiration continue to inform the Institute's orientation while its work has developed through open, interdisciplinary inquiry engaging scholars and practitioners from diverse intellectual, cultural, philosophical, and religious backgrounds.
An evolving, holistic inquiry
Over the past two decades, the Institute's work has evolved through ongoing dialogue with scholars, practitioners, and institutions across Asia and beyond.
Its earliest work explored education, science, community and social development, world order, and religion. The inquiry has increasingly centred on civilization itself as a holistic framework for understanding humanity's collective development.
