Third International Symposium on Science, Humanities and Future Civilization
Scholars and practitioners from across Asia, Europe, and North America gathered in Kuala Lumpur to examine how ideas of civilization can illuminate contemporary crises and humanity’s shared future.The third symposium expanded a dialogue begun in 2023 and continued in Kathmandu in 2024, bringing the Malay–Indonesian world more fully into an evolving cross-civilizational conversation.
Discussions traced a movement away from civilizational hierarchy toward multipolarity, mutual learning, and co-construction. Participants explored how spiritual and material life might be brought into closer relationship through ecological civilization, agriculture, human-centred technology, and ethical approaches to artificial intelligence.
Rather than advancing a fixed model, the gathering emphasized dialogue across traditions and long-term collaboration—toward forms of civilization grounded in plurality, reciprocity, and the flourishing of life.
Co-organized by IGC, the Universiti Malaya Centre for Civilisational Dialogue, and the ASIAR research cluster at the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Hong Kong.
